Julius Caesar: Biography part 1
Well today I'm going to start a Julius Caesar biography. Enjoy.
Early Life
Caesar was the son of a relatively minor Roman noble. His life went well until he turned 15, when his father died and he inherited much of his property. When caesar was 20 he was order to divorce his wife by the Roman dictator Sulla. He refused and fled Rome, although he was later pardoned
After this Caesar joined the army.
The Army
When the Roman Army attaced Mytilene, Caesar was sent to request the fleet of King Nicomedes IV Phailopator. The ease with which he achieved this task led to accusations that this was in return for sexual favours. This accusations followed Caesar throughout his career.
At the siege of Miletus, Caesar showed great bravery and was awarded the corona civica. This was the highest honour an ordinary troop could receive.
Politics
On Sulla’s death Caesar entered politics, but in 75 BC, when travelling for oratorical training, he was kidnapped by pirates. When he was ransomed Caesar returned with a fleet and captured the pirates, crucifying them all after what he was as an unsuitable punishment by the governor of Asis Minor.
In 63 BC Caesar was voted to the position of Pontifex Maximus, which gave him great power and greatly increased hi profile. A year later he was elected as a Praetor. He was given Outer Iberia as his province and in this role he was a success, which gained him support. Caesar now stood for consul.
Tomorrow I will continue from here, and deal with the Gallic War and Caesar’s later life.
