Hitler Biography: Part 3
Here is the final part of my Hitler biography.
Moves towards war
Hitler first united Germany and Austria before turning his sights on German speaking parts of Czechoslovakia. The Munich Agreement, signed with other European powers, allowed Hitler to reclaim parts of the country if he stopped there. For this peace agreement Hitler was Time's Man of the Year.
Hitler now made a none agression pact with Russia and they each invaded parts of Poland. This invasion brought France and Britain into the war.
World War II had begun
The War
Hitler's invasion of France was completed by June of 1940 and around this time Italy also joined with Germany. Hitler then began bombing attacks on Britain. In 1941 Hitler ordered the invasion of the Soviet Union, breaking the none agression pact and declared war on the United States.
Between now and 1944 Hitler's troops were slowly thrown back and Germany's defeat began to look much more likely (I'm trying to avoid too much detail on World War II as I will do a post on it later)
In 1944 as enemy troops advanced on the capital Hitler commit suicide, shooting himself in the head. His mistress Eva, whom he had married the previous day had poisoned herself. The two were partially burned and then hastily buried and the Allies finally took the city.
Hitler's body was exhumed and is widely believed to have been moved around for some time before finally being cremated.
Thus did Hitler end.
The Holocaust
The holocaust led to the deaths of 11 million people, including 6 million Jews. These people were killed or died in SS work camps and were seen as part of a "final solution" to rid the world of Jews. While there are no direct orders from Hitler endorsing the holocaust there is much evidence that he did support this.
Mass killing, aimed at exterminating an entire race, became known as genocide and is a crime that has happened a number of times in history. My blog entry does not leave space to provide full details of the holocaust, but there is an abundance of information around for those who want to know more, including this wikipedia article.
Tomorrow
Tomorrow I will write a post that is not related to Hitler, or World War II, although I have not decided what it will be about yet. I guess you'll have to wait and see.
I plan to make it much more specific so I can give a more in depth account, rather than jumping from event to event.
