Well as far as the history of Mumbai goes it's not too much because it's a new city. Well the old city was called Bombay!
Chia: The name was changed a few years back!
This city is on the western coast of India, it is the financial capital of India, in a state called Maharashtra (translates into Great Country).
So Bombay is the name given by the English who had colonized India, and it stayed that way for many, many long years and then after independence here in Mumbai there rose a political party called Shiv Sena (which translates to Shiva Army)... They have been making a ruckus about indianizing Mumbai and removing the English influences and preserving the Marathi culture native to Mumbai!
Maharashtra is the state of the marathi's. Though Mumbai is cosmopolitan.
Well anyway so after lots of Hulla (Ruckus) the name Mumbai officially is changed to Mumbai the cities original name centuries ago!
Chia: All this seems like noodles, all squiggly and intertwined but well.... it is a can of worms...
