Founding of the United Nations
Today I'm going to do a brief post on the history of the United Nations.
The Idea
After World War I a League of Nations was established with the aim of ensuring world peace. However, for a number of reasons this institutions fails and the world entered World War II.
During the second world war the concept of the United Nations was suggested, although in reference only to the allied countries. This group was to be superior to the League of Nations due to its ability to deploy member states' armed forces to back up its demands.
The first official use of the name was to refer to an agreement between the allied nations not to seek a seperate peace with the axis powers. By 1944 though the organisation's later ideals and structure had been set out.
The final creation
In 1945 the UN came into existence with 51 member nations (including the soviet union, United States, Britain, France and China as permenant members of the security council). Its headquarters were located in New York
