Tuatara - The Oldest Life on New Zealand

Tuatara

The Tuatara are called "living dinosaurs" since they roamed around along with dinosaurs aeons ago! Lizards and snakes are its closest relatives, however the Tuatara belongs to a different class of reptiles.
The word 'tuatara' is Maori for "peaks on the back". The Tuatara has a Third Eye! This eye is visible in young ones in a few months it gets covered with scales. This eye absorbs UV rays when it is young and it absorbs Vitamin D through it.
Due to its slow breeding cycle it is now soon becoming extinct.
It stayed on the New Zealand for all these aeons undisturbed however the dogs, rats, deers brought by man to this land has caused a great declination in the populations of these living fossils!!

Little Miss Hone - Samuel Morse

Hrrmph well this not so.... Samuel Morse was actually an artist!
Born in 1791 in USA he earned money during and after his graduation (from Yale) by painting.
In fact pursuing this art he sailed to England where he was a part of the Royal Academy along with the likes of Raphael and Michelangelo!
This is where he produced his masterpiece the Dying Hercules.

This was the time when Britain and America were at war with each other! Soon he left England and became a full fledged American Painter. He painted many important paintings like that of president James Monroe, Hall of Congress etc..
In 1830 he went to England to improve his painting skills, this is where he befriended Charles Jackson. This friendship led to Morse discovering a single wire being used to send electromagnetic impulses used as a communication device!
After a lot of rigmarole and ridicule, in 1842 Washington passed a bill commissioning one experimental line. This line was constructed between Washington and Baltimore! It was a success.
In 1847 Morse patented the Telegraph.
Morse died in 1872!

More about Cats...

The first associations of cats with humans may have begun toward the end of the Stone Age. It took many centuries, for the cat to become established as a domestic animal.
It was first adopted by Egypt about 5000 years ago. Its usefulness in killing mice and rodents was such that it was soon protected and considered sacred. This is thought to be the origin of their Cat God Bastet a female figurine with a cats head! This Goddess is considered to be the most worshiped of all gods and godesses.

june 5th

Five years ago on this day, speaking to American soldiers in Qatar, President Bush argued the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq was justified and pledged that "we'll reveal the truth" on Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction.
No weapons were really found!
This was a sad day for me, I stopped watching news because it really shocked me. This was the day when I decided that the notion of a "21 st century" was all bull

Fantasy Fiction

As it happens I did get to go for Narnia today. Though I am still bummed because the movie pretty much sucked in my opinion. They have changed the script a lot, and have commercialized it in a big way even adding a romantic angle to it!
I just don't like seeing stories commercialized! Even the bits which were changed in Lord of the Rings irked though it wasn't much really seeing what's happened with Eragon, Narnia and some others.
If I get started on Eragon the Movie it's just unending!!
